A Project team of experts from Germany, India and Japan led by Mr. J. von der Ohe (Germany). is preparing a major revision of the blank detail specification for fixed surface mount resistors, IEC 60115-8-1. The new revision adopts the new structure of the revised generic specification IEC 60115-1 and will be aligned with the sectional specification IEC 60115-8.

The new revision will be the first of a group of blank detail specifications on various types of fixed surface mount resistors, identified by the new number IEC 60115-8-10 and an adjusted title “Fixed resistors for use in electronic equipment – Part 8-10: Blank detail specification: Fixed surface mount resistors for general electronic equipment –classification level G”.

Publication of the new revision of IEC 60115-8-10 is expected for 2025

The new revision adopts the new structure of the revised generic specification IEC 60115-1 and will be aligned with the sectional specification IEC 60115-4.

A maintenance team of experts from Germany, Japan and India led by Mr. J. von der Ohe (Germany) is preparing a major revision of the Sectional specification for Fixed surface mount resistor networks with individually measurable resistors IEC 60115-9. The new revision adopts the new structure of the revised generic specification IEC 60115-1.

Publication of the new revision of IEC 60115-9 is expected for 2026.

Fixed capacitors for use in electronic equipment – Part 1: Generic specification

The maintenance team for edition 7 has been established in January 2025. The convenor is Mr. M. Schwerdtfeger (Germany) and members from Japan, Finland and Germany.

This generic specification will be maintained to follow the latest ISO/IEC Directive rules. The test methods will be checked and maybe new ones added. The annexes will be renamed to follow the latest practices.

Fixed capacitors for use in electronic equipment – Part 2: Sectional specification – Fixed metallized polyethylene terephthalate film dielectric DC capacitors

The maintenance team for edition 6 has been established in January 2025. The convenor is Mr. F. Puhane (Germany) and members from Japan and Finland.

This document will be maintained to follow the latest ISO/IEC Directive rules, and the present TC 40 capacitor sectional specification. The work will be mainly editorial, but the technical validity will be checked.

Fixed capacitors for use in electronic equipment – Part 4: Sectional specification – Fixed aluminium electrolytic capacitors with solid (MnO2) and non-solid electrolyte

The maintenance team for edition 6 has been established in March 2024. The convenor is Mr. J.Kiyosawa (Japan) and members from Japan, Finland and Germany.

The document will be revised using the latest ISO/IEC Directives and Sectional Specification rules of TC 40. The technical contents will be reviewed.The question of capacitors using mixed solid / non-solid electrolyte has been discussed during the maintenance work, but it was decided not to include this technology to this standard now.

Target date for CD is 2025-05-30.

Fixed capacitors for use in electronic equipment – Part 11: Sectional specification – Fixed polyethylene-terephthalate film dielectric metal foil DC capacitors

The maintenance team for edition 5 has been established in January 2025. The convenor is Mr. F. Puhane (Germany) and member from Finland.

This document will be maintained to follow the latest ISO/IEC Directive rules, and the present TC 40 capacitor sectional specification. The work will be mainly editorial.

AMD 1 of the Edition 5 has been prepared by the MT 60384-14 to clarify a few unclear points in the document and is now in CDV stage. Voting has ended 2025-02-14. FDIS will be circulated soon.

PT TS 63337

Basic qualification of DC-Link film capacitors for automotive use; General requirements, test conditions and tests

The document IEC TS 63337 was published in February 2024, and is now going to be implemented into supply specifications for customized DC-Link capacitors, mainly in the voltage range between 450 V DC to 1200 V DC.

This Technical Specification was developed under the leadership of Mr. Walter Huck (Germany) with participation of experts from China, USA, Finland, Germany, and Japan. A committee draft was circulated in April 2022 (40/2946/CD). After thorough discussions DTS has been circulated in October 2023 as 40/3093/DTS and the voting ended 2023-12-22.

The project is based on a document prepared by the “ZVEI/ECPE Film Capacitors Core Group” working group with representatives from the automotive, the device and the capacitor manufacturers. It provides requirements, test conditions and tests to validate characteristics including the service life of application-specific film capacitors for use in motor vehicle drives DC-Link applications. The requirements, test conditions and tests listed in this document apply to application-specific film capacitors developed for use in motor vehicle power electronics for the application as a DC-link capacitor in HV applications or in the intermediate circuit of the 48 V on-board electrical system.

The qualification requirements may be expanded or adapted for the application of technologically innovative designs if necessary. The content and scope of supplements shall therefore be specified and documented in coordination between the responsible parties prior to sourcing. Power electronics in the motor vehicle need to be tested in accordance with the environmental qualification standards of the vehicle manufacturers. Because the AEC-Q200 is not applicable for the capacitors considered here, this document defines a set of tests to ensure the basic suitability of the capacitor for this use.

Guidance information on the application of capacitors, resistors, inductors, and complete filter units for electromagnetic interference suppression

The maintenance team for the edition 3 of the document has been established in January 2021. The convenor is Dr. S. Weber (Germany) and members from Japan, Switzerland, and Finland. The maintenance work started during the year 2021. The number of applications for this kind of components have been increasing after the publication of the previous edition of this document, and new requirements have appeared.

The intention in the maintenance work is to collect from component and equipment standards, and from actual applications, the guidance, how the components are/can be used in various applications and how they possibly can substitute each other taking especially the safety aspects into consideration. This kind of guidance has been requested e.g., by ACOS.

The intention is to restructure the document totally and make it a normative one, so that it can be referred to in the Safety standards. The project has been delayed because of the complexity of the task. The commenting to CD ended 2024-10-25, and CDV has been prepared. It will be circulated for voting in March 2025.
